Welcome to our home!

We're delighted to welcome you for this little stay in the mountains, in the cocoon we first imagined for our family.

We are Colin and Elodie, parents of 2 young children, and live in Grenoble. Colin is originally from Valmeinier, and we love coming with the children to spend our weekends in the mountains. That's why we designed the apartment so that it would be comfortable with children, safe and adapted for them and for us (no need to carry all the folding crib/high chair/changing table), but where we could come with friends, hence the large number of beds.

Your welcome is important to us, which is why we hope to pass on our good ideas for activities and contacts through this welcome booklet. We hope you enjoy Valmeinier as much as we do, and that our flat makes you feel at home.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, we'll be happy to answer them!

Enjoy your stay at the Chargies'!

Key box

Once you have arrived at the flat address (926 Rue des grandes côtes, 73450 Valmeinier), you will be able to park in front of the building, in the unloading spaces, to collect your keys and unload your vehicle. Please note that Saturdays are arrival and departure days for everyone: be nice and don't stay in these spaces for too long (see the Parking section for weekly spaces).

Once you've passed the door of the building, you'll find a corridor leading to the letterboxes on your right:

  • On your left, a corridor leading to the lower flats,
  • Also on the left is a staircase to the upper floors (the flat is on the 1st floor, on the right, with the name "La Combe Orsière"),
  • Opposite this staircase is a corridor on the right, which leads to the cellars. The key box is located on the jambs of our cellar door, identified by a "La Combe Orsière" plaque.

The diagram should help you. Once you've found the box, enter the 4-digit code we'll give you before you arrive, collect a set of keys to the flat and the cellar, and you're ready to enjoy! Other sets of keys to the cellar and flat hang behind the front door of the flat.

You can unload your skis, bikes or anything else you think is relevant directly from the cellar, and the rest of your belongings from the flat.

Parking

After unloading at the foot of the chalet (926 Rue des grandes côtes, 73450 Valmeinier), you can find a space in the free municipal car park further up the road towards the Village (the spaces circled in yellow on the map). You'll be able to stay there all week with no worries.

However, at the busiest of the winter season, if you're going away for the day, it can be difficult to find a space in the evening. We therefore recommend that you use the free shuttles to get around the resort!

Important rules

In order to respect our neighbours in the building, we would ask you to:

  • Store all ski equipment (including boots) in the cellar.
  • Do not park in areas where snow has to be cleared.
  • Help close the front door.
  • Scrape your shoes outside to avoid soiling communal areas.
  • Do not make noise after 10pm.
  • Check behind you that the building entrance door is well closed to avoid heating the outside !

In addition to these building rules, we have added the following rules for our accommodation:

  • This is a non-smoking flat.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • As the flat is a walk-through, we ask you to be aware of draughts by wedging open doors (especially glass doors). Door wedges are provided.

Babies and children

In order to welcome your families as well as our own, we have made various items of equipment available to you:

  • Changing table
  • Two small steps of different sizes
  • Adapted toilet seat (WC 1)
  • Plastic cutlery, glasses, plates and bowls
  • Two highchairs are available: one on a stand, which we find practical for outdoor use, and a booster seat.

We leave the instructions for the equipment at your disposal, and rely on you to use it sensibly to avoid any disasters.

The folding crib

Our folding crib can be used for several purposes. It's the Sven Plus, by Lionelo model.

First of all, please note that this bed is not suitable for children over 15kg.

Also, there are two heights you can choose for the child's mattress: as soon as the child can sit up in the bed, you should no longer use the high position. See the instructions for installing the raised mattress.

Finally, the changing table that attaches to the bed cannot support children weighing more than 11kg.

Bedding, towels and househinfos-pratiquesold linen

The accommodation is made up of 11 adult beds, plus a folding crib, which you can use as you wish:

  • 2 adults can sleep in a queen-size double bed (160x200) in the bedroom with the red wardrobe,
  • 2 adults can sleep in the bedroom with the black wardrobe, in two single beds (90x190) separated by a central 40cm aisle. You can join the two beds together to make a double bed, but because of the size of the single beds, there will be a gap between the two mattresses.
  • 2 people can sleep in the bunk beds in the recess (80x190),
  • 1 adult can sleep on the first sofa bed in the lounge (80x190),
  • 2 adults can sleep on the second sofa bed in the lounge, under which there is a pull-out bed (2x 80x190): this converts the sofa bed into a queen-size double bed,
  • 2 adults can sleep on the sofa bed in the living/dining room (140x190).

We provide all the necessary bedding for each bed.

The duvets are 4-season duvets, which means you can adapt the warmth of the duvet to your needs: one is light, ideal in summer or in heated rooms (200 g/m2), the other is perfect for mid-season (300 g/m2). Together, they provide ideal warmth for even the coldest winter weather!

Although we suggest that you set up your duvet on arrival, you can choose from a range of duvets to suit your needs!
We also provide extra duvets for double beds, if required. The bedding is in labelled plastic boxes, either in the bedroom cupboards, or under the sofa beds in the living room/dormitory for the bedding in this room.

We also provide one pillow per bed, but as everyone has their own preferences, there are two types of pillow. We'll let you find the one that suits you best and work it out with your flatmates!

We also provide a bath sheet (70x140) and towel (50x100) for each adult.

We also provide:

  • A hand towel for the kitchen sink
  • A dish towel
  • 3 microfibres (one green, one orange, one pink)
  • 1 sponge

All linen is washed at 60° minimum between rentals.

Heating system

To reduce our energy consumption, we have fitted the flat with a regulated heating system that can be controlled remotely. We set the temperature in advance so that it is 21°C in the flat between 8am and 10pm, and 19°C at night.

However, you can temporarily raise or lower the temperature of a room manually by turning the cap on the thermostatic valve head as shown in the picture. When the cap is turned, the set temperature is increased/decreased by 2°C compared to the current room temperature. The increase/decrease is active for 1 hour. This is very useful, for example, to raise the temperature in bathrooms before/during showers!

If you would like to change the set points more generally, please contact us.

Water and electricity supplies

If you need to, don't hesitate to turn off the water or electricity of the flat. Here's the information you need.

Water

The water supply is located in the wooden cupboard to the left of the entrance door (on the landing). You need to open this cupboard with a triangle key, which is provided in the shelf cupboard in the entrance hall. Next, you'll need to locate our water supply. It is labelled "Combe Orsière". Finally, you can turn the tap on and off.

Electricity

For electricity, we have two main circuit breakers in the house (formerly two flats):

  • The first is located at the head of the bunk bed in the recess.
  • The second is located in the entrance hall, above the key-holder system. They operate like all general circuit breakers, with a main switch that cuts off all the power. To cut off the electricity to the whole flat, you need to turn off the two main circuit breakers.

Free shuttles

This is a very efficient way of getting between the various points of interest in Valmeinier, without having to get out your car and look for spaces (which can sometimes be complicated at the 1800 resort).

The nearest bus stop to the flat is at the end of the municipal car park (150m walk up towards the village): it's the Les Mélèzes stop, on the purple line. It's the blue star on the map.
